What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a health focused, gentle method of investigation and treatment, that includes all the systems of the body. It’s goal is to find out why an individual is having symptoms, such as pain, in an area, which is a lack of expression of health.

This is done by using many different hands on techniques:

- Myofascial release

- Cranial osteopathy

- Visceral osteopathy

- Osteo-articular adjustments

- Muscle energy techniques

Osteopathy can help with many conditions.

Conditions treated include but are not limited to:

  • Headaches

  • Back pain

  • Digestive issues

  • Sinus issues

  • Fertility

  • Acute and chronic pain

  • Concussions

What can I expect during a treatment session?

No treatment is exactly the same as the body is constantly changing and each individual is has a unique history and physiology. After a brief check in, a full body, hands-on assessment is performed to determine the state of the patient on that day and where treatment is required for that person. The remainder of the session is treatment focused using many different gentle manual techniques. For both assessment and treatment, patients may be standing, sitting, lying on their stomach, side or back. Patients who have difficulties being in any position will be accommodated for whenever possible.

Osteopathy is also about maintaining health long term.

According to osteopathic philosophy, all parts of the body are interconnected and affect each other. Therefore, if you ignore the signs of pain in one area, over time this can cause the body to compensate and adjust, leading to pain in other areas.

By including Osteopathy as part of your health and wellness routine, you can address pain early and at its source, leading to better overall health and a more active and healthy lifestyle.
